Practice makes man perfect...

Yes, and this holds good even for directors who re-make their own films... gosh!! you are so intelligent... I didn't even had to give you even a single clue. Yeah! its Ghajini and am talking about its 2-time director A R Muragadoss (some connection with Anbumani Ramadoss ???) hehe...

Ghajini will make it to the history pages as the last film I saw last year in a theatre. For people who haven't seen the previous version in telugu/tamil will not be able to appreciate this post, but people who have seen the namesake, will understand what am talking. The first thing which struck me when I saw the AK's version is how much the director has improved upon his previous attempt. I am not saying that the hindi version is anything being close to perfection but he has definitely dished out a better movie this time around. My post will lose its credibility if it doesnt talk about the "new and improved" climax in the hindi version. I just didnt like the telugu/tamil version's climax... or actually anti-climax. Also the concept of look-alike villanous twins also was quite an eyesore.

To be very honest, the songs in the hindi version actually come in the way of the pace of the movie even though I just love the songs in isolation. On one side, am actually humming along the song and on the other side, am itching for the song to finish and hope that the movie advances. There is one particular scene which I thought the director would have handled it better in the hindi version but I was disappointed. I'm talking about the scene when the bad guy and his goons tear apart all the clues the protogonist had accumulated in his house and blotch away the tattoes all over his body quite painfully. I was waiting to see how AK would react after he regains consciousness ... is he shocked to see all the clues gone? does he have to redo the entire investigation all over?? does he even remember that he was investigation something at all?? and many more such weird thoughts. But it all turned out to be a damp squib.

Any other actress would have slipped into Jiah Khan's role. Nothing great about it. Asin played the role as is she was sleep-walking. AK was good but just good. I mean those boyish grins are fast becoming monotonous now. You cannot carry your entire career on that just one expression. With tighter editing, probably the movie could have been reduced in its length.

Final verdict - Its not a perfect movie but much much much better than the director's vernacular version. Go watch it for AK's commitment towards his character, for the breathtaking cinematography (in bits-and-pieces, especially the chase scene at the climax), haunting music, trauma and pain that shows but doesnt show off. Ghajini had its moments.
