The paradox of love... infact the biggest paradox of life itself... is that we tend to hurt most the people we love most. This happens because of our larger than life image of our loved ones and "great expectations" from our loved ones. So much so, that we tend to raise the standards of expectations from them which, are much higher than what we set for ourselves.

I read somewhere that a small test was conducted on a school teacher without her knowledge. Her behaviour was recorded in a class over a period of time and the analysis revealed shocking results. She tended to have overtly negative behaviour ... like "thou shall not..." types... with her pet students.

Agreed, criticism does wonders to shaping one's character but administering criticism is an art, not honed by many. Its like fighting with a double-edged sword. It could make or break. A good and safest way of using it to do it in private.
